About Debra Prigge
Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year!!! Hello, my name is Debbi Prigge. This school year I am starting my third year at Kittitas Secondary School, and I am one of the Resource Room teachers here.
I graduated from Kent Meridian High School in Kent, Washington. Next, I attended Central Washington University, majored in Special Education and Elementary Education, and graduated in 1976. I also earned a Master's degree in Special Education from CWU in 1984. I taught as an Elementary Resource Room teacher at Monroe Elementary in Monrovia, CA. I also taught as a Resource Room teacher at Tillicum Junior High and at Sammamish High in Bellevue, WA. In 1996 I earned an EdD in Special Education from the University of Washington. Most recently, I taught in the Education Department at CWU, teaching students who want to be teachers and who are working on teaching degrees.
I have one husband, two children, and a very smart cat. Warren and I have been married for 35 years. Our daughters are 22 and 18, and are really involved in sports: Swimming, fastpitch, and basketball. Alex will be attending graduate school in Colorado next year to earn her masters in physical education. Nicole is attending ECC on a basketball scholarship and working towards being an elementary school teacher.
I am a avid (or maybe that should rabid) sports fan: USA Swimming, Seattle Storm, Huskies' Basketball, Mariners, and of course, I am a BIG Kittitas Coyotes fan. I also collect pigs, weird cookie jars, and white cream pitchers. I am a "committed" scrap booker, and I love to tell stories about EVERYTHING, but most especially my family.
I am a fun person who takes teaching and learning SERIOUSLY. I look forward to you learning a lot from me, and me from you. Please feel free to contact me with your comments, questions, and/or concerns.
GO COYOTES!!!
Mission Statement
I believe my mission as a teacher is to start my students on the wonderful life-long journey of learning. All students need to see and believe in their possibilities. I want them to be confident and really find who they are as a person and as a learner. So, I want to help students find their potential and to boldly go beyond. To quote Buzz Lightyear: "To infinity and beyond!" : )
I believe I was destined to be a teacher, and destined to teach at KSS. Pat Conroy once told his students that “I was born to teach you” and “you were born to be my students. We’re going to have a blast.” I couldn’t have said it better—so I am going to borrow his words and make them mine.
I want all students to: “Set your sights high, the higher the better. Expect the most wonderful things to happen, not in the future, but right now” (Eilleen Caddy). And I want us all to have a BLAST doing it.
