About Nate Phillips
This will be my seventh year teaching at Kittitas and my ninth year overall with short stints at Ellensburg and Royal. I grew up in the Gig Harbor area and graduated from Peninsula High school. I went to TCC after high school and discovered that enjoyed education. From there I came to Kittitas Valley to pursue a degree in Education from Central. While going to school my wife and I fell in love with the valley and decided to make home. I obtained a BS in Math Education from Central Washington University in 2000. I am married to a wonderful and caring woman who I share two beautiful childern with. Along with being our high school math teacher, I am also the head girls basketball coach (4 years) and fastpitch coach (7 years). I have been coaching, basketball (boys and girls), baseball, fastpitch and football, in some capacity for the past 13 years. I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, fishing and any watersport I can find time to learn.
Mission Statement
"Its intuitively obvious to the most casual of observers." is a quote that is burned into my memory by a former high school math teacher. A great man and good teacher but the answer is not always intuitive. I believe that students learn and adapt in the math classroom in a variety of ways and what maybe obvious maybe cloudy and unclear to the another. My goal is to have every student who leaves here to have some form of understanding of math and the many disciplines that fall under that heading.
"Learning math is a lot like stumbling around in a dark room looking for a light switch. You take a lot of bumps and bruises looking for it but once you find that switch everything becomes much clearer."
